About Evelyn Lim
From 1997- 2024, Singaporean organist Evelyn Lim was a full-time faculty member at Methodist School of Music (MSM), Singapore. During her tenure, she was instrumental in establishing the School as the leading provider of organist training in the country. In addition to her duties, she concurrently taught for a number of years at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, and Singapore Bible College, and since 2019 at Dulwich College (Singapore). In December 2024, Evelyn was honoured with the Distinguished Organ Teacher Award in recognition of her dedication and contribution at Methodist School of Music, where she now serves in an adjunct capacity.
In 2002, she was appointed the Pipe Organ Master of the Klais organ at the Esplanade Theatres on the Bay. There she has opportunities to conduct organ demonstrations, loft tours, and to work with local and international artists.
In 2003, Evelyn spearheaded the founding of an organists’ community – the Singapore Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Together with the Chapter, she collaborates with the Singapore Symphony Group and other esteemed organizations in musical outreach events and concerts, advancing the cause of organ music in its various platforms.
As organist, Evelyn has performed solo and collaborative concerts on local platforms such as at the VCH Organ Series, the Esplanade's Tapestry of Sacred Music, and notably with professional orchestras and choirs such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Singapore Symphony Chorus, and the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
Evelyn earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She also studied at the University of Houston, Texas, graduating with the Master of Music and Bachelor of Music (summa cum laude) degrees.
Teachers who have significantly influenced her musical journey include Dr John Sharpley (piano, Singapore); Dr Robert Jones (organ), Betty Ruth Tomfohrde (piano), Dr Marilyn Mason (organ), Dr Michele Johns (church music) and Edward Parmentier (harpsichord) in the USA.

What subjects do you teach?
My focus areas are organ performance, interpretation, liturgical playing, basic improvisation and music history. I also teach piano on occasion.
